Critics Think Aura Bora’s Sparkling Water Flavors Sound Like Candles, So They Made a Drink Inspired by One

Since it’s truly impossible to please everyone, one of the oldest tricks in the PR book is to just lean into criticism. There’s a bit of a reactionary wave going on in the design world, which our own Chloe Gordon explored in this week’s Shelf Lifeafter Charli XCX’s brat cover became a meme for its intentionally bad cover art. While there could be all kinds of reasons for this being huge right now, Gordon summed it up well when she considered one of its principal motivations: “It’s a way of saying, ‘I don’t care what you think.’”

Sparkling water brand Aura Bora is the latest entity “yes and”-ing critics. After receiving several comments noting that their often primarily herbal flavors sounded (and tasted) like candle scents, they decided to run with it and collaborate with the P.F. Candle Company.
