Inspired by the many shapes a dough ball can take, Sitko’s pizza boxes, designed by Werklig, showcase playful geometry. The aesthetic of the black and white pizza boxes very much shares a “punk rock” vibe, but the warmth of the circular shapes helps produce a more welcoming, pizza-like mindset for the boxes. Never underestimate a black and white packaging design; sometimes, the simplicity takes you far.
Sitko is a dissident pizza company rooted deeply in the (sub)cultures. Sitko needed a brand strategy and a distinguishable visual identity along with new packaging, something that’d help them differentiate from the vast ocean of oh-so-cliche?d artisan pizzerias and also allow Sitko to expand into other product groups and retail products. Our brief was simply “to sprinkle on some punk rock to spice it up.”
Visual identity manifests a company that refuses to be stereotyped or classified but boldly draws influences from various sources and creates something completely new with an unapologetic attitude. Various subcultural phenomena and art movements have inspired Sitko. Our approach is built upon the different meanings of the word “culture” – the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a population, the arts and other manifestations of human achievement, and the microbial environment of bacteria and other microbes – all of which are closely related to what Sitko is and does.
A dough ball is Sitko’s heart and soul, a living ecosystem of life forms, organic and constantly transforming. A perfect symbol for a sourdough pizza company. We reduced it to an extremely simplistic and recognizable emblem – an irregular rounded shape. Combined with collagesque, black-and-white aesthetics, and raw, handmade style, the visual style is a tribute to the DIY subcultures.
