Does Fiorellino Beer’s Florid, Psychedelic Can Design Take Cues From the Natural Wine World?

Is it just us, or do beer and winemakers seem to be taking pointers from each other? Over the past few years, wine has gotten decidedly more beer-like: less pretentious, more free-spirited, and fun, tapping into a younger kind of sophistication. Natural wine labels are somewhat flowery and psychedelic, leaning into a free-flowing “house party for rich people in 70s LA” aesthetic.

Beer design can really go anywhere and tends to be all over the place, but there’s something about AWP’s design for Italian restaurant group Fiorellino’s new line of beer that seems explicitly wine-like. Maybe it’s the eatery’s home base in Italy or the color designations between the two options (“rossa” and “bionda,” or red and blond, respectively). It’s probably a little bit of both, but AWP leans into the fairly natural direction that combination would lead to by making a design that feels more tapped into the world of wine than beer.
