Barilla Realizes They Didn’t Need That Little Plastic Window On Their Packaging

Published

Barilla is one of the world’s largest pasta makers, and in 2016, they sold 3,413 million euros of carby deliciousness alone. Because of this, Barilla puts a lot of pasta in boxes with little plastic windows, and though you can recycle the cardboard packaging throughout the UK, consumers still have to remove the thin plastic panel and discard it with the refuse, nevermind the additional plastic you just introduced to the environment.

Barilla Group has now removed that ubiquitous plastic window, making their packaging 100% recyclable in the UK. The change is part of the firm’s “Good for You, Good for the Planet” environmental initiative, which includes sustainability efforts across its operations, in line with its sustainable packaging principles, which also includes reducing the overall amount of material used, sourcing paper and cardboard from responsibly managed forests, as well as producing packaging out of a single material to make recycling more accessible.
