Mario Carpe’s Drink Concept “Tears” Attempts to Bottle a Feeling (or Eight)

2000’s drink trends have been solidly back for a bit, with beverage brands putting ambitious blends of flavors in punchy, eclectic cans and bottles. A good amount of them have a quasi-homeopathic approach reminiscent of the Y2K aromatherapy boom, with today’s CBD and mushrooms picking up where once-ubiquitous ginseng and gingko left off. This makes it easy to kind of assign feelings to flavors, almost like a quick and easy prescription.

Designer Mario Carpe imagines leaning into this a little more with his fun concept for Tears, an emotionally-motivated beverage line by the sadly fictional Synesthesia Labs. It imagines blends for eight feelings, which range from fairly simple (joy, sadness) to a bit more complicated (gratitude, empathy… impotence?). The concept is ambitious, but the look is simple, grounding each emotion in a different color. A calming, easy blue is at the center of the design, with a logomark in an approachable, sweet serif font.
