Avamposto is a private residence and a former military outpost located in the countryside of Piacenza (Italy), and traceable back to 1481. It is situated in a valley, surrounded by fields of lavender, vineyards and farm animals. The first time the owners visited the property a fox was found adventuring in the estate. The fox, known for it ?s intelligence, creativity and adaptability, was adopted as a symbol for the identity of the property. Avamposto ambition is to explore a new sense of luxury, creating an experience through the estates hand-crafted products.
Avamposto Gin is infused with locally sourced botanicals and lavender harvested in the slopes surrounding Avamposto ?s own distillery, a concoction that its a true expression of the place.
Our goal for the bottle, was to echo the experience of visiting the Avamposto residence. The Farm Bottle, from Estal, with it ?s natural blue hue form recycled glass, is embossed on the back side to offer a tactile experience. The illustration is an accurate depiction of the Avamposto valley loosely inspired by John James Audubon natural illustrations. For the label we were inspired by the beautifully intricate, while also vernacular, 18th Century paper praying cards, typically carrying portraits of saints and religious symbology. The rich combination of cut-outs and sculptured embossing required a state of the art execution, pushing the limits of what a label production (on a roll) can deliver. The branded natural cork also has an humble feel, sealed with a thread and a metallic coin, creating a memorable opening and an interesting contrast to the rich label artwork. Inspired by the military history of the place, we also created a wooden container to house each bottle sealed by a label, produced on a lathe similarly to the Matryoshka dolls, offering protection from the light and giving each bottle an unique and reusable case.
