Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays where some people adore it. Others? Not so much. They’d rather hide under their covers until the 15th. Of course, if you’re single for this upcomig ever-present Hallmark holiday, it can feel like everyone is rubbing their perfect, idyllic, romantic relationships in your face. But maybe we need to reframe what Valentine’s Day means.
I grew up in a house where Valentine’s Day was a day you showed your love for the people in your life you cared about, regardless if it was romantic. My mom always bought my brother and me chocolate, special pajamas, and sweet little treats. It was a day of gratitude for the people you care about, and I love that she instilled that in me at a young age.
This year, whether or not you’re in a relationship, tell the people you love that you love them. Give your friends chocolates. Watch a rom-com with your mom. Life is full of hard moments, but it’s days like today when we can show our loved ones how much they mean to us.
