General Mills Appeals to Gen Z’s Taste for Maximalism with a Luxurious Wellness-Inspired Campaign

For at least a couple of years, inflation’s been so bad that the average trip to the grocery store has most of us dropping fairly huge bucks to keep our pantries stocked.

These days, standing in front of a cashier can feel a bit like a losing game of roulette, and a couple of bags of food can quickly add up to the cost of a therapy appointment. While this continuing trend adds to an increasingly widespread sense of financial instability, the camp move is obviously to lean into it. Who says spending $6.88 on name-brand cereal isn’t luxurious?

General Mills plays on the affordable luxury trend with their new LOADED cereals, super-size takes on Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix, and Cocoa Puffs stuffed with fancy vanilla creme. The boxes have a pretty classically cartoony design from CBX with a “black label” upgrade, but the limited-edition promotional merch is the highlight. The design team at Edelman had tons of fun with the “Get Cereal Rich With Me” collection, which includes a plush robe with removable pockets, a crown-shaped bowl, and even a spoon that doubles as a jade roller.
