Vina is a prebiotics soda with healthful ingredients like plant fiber and trace minerals. Vina is also organic, vegan, and low-sugar. The “soda with smarts,” Vina’s tagline, is the latest beverage line from founder Alex Matthews’ HERE Originals, following tepache brand De La Calle.

“Historically, soda hasn’t been considered a healthy choice, packed with sugars and toxins, despite the fun nature of the flavorful beverage. We saw a need to preserve what we all love about soda while completely reconstructing it to be both a naturally delicious and a smart choice,” said Matthews in a press release.

Available in five flavors, Cherry Pop, Ginger Fizz, Grapefruit, Lime Lemon, and Pomegranate, Vina’s sodas feature prebiotics from apple cider vinegar, magnesium, chloride, boron, and lithium, and no more than 5g of sugar.

The prebiotics soda recently went a reformulation and took the opportunity to refresh the brand as well. The bright cans are undoubtedly eye-catching, with bright and bold color palettes and organic, round shapes dominating the labels. That shelf presence is intentional, as Vina’s distribution has grown to include Whole Foods and Erewhon supermarkets in SoCal.

“It’s the dichotomy of high-end luxury & street, DIY & digital, Coast & City, Past & Future, Stripes & floral prints that make the brand personality of Vina so special. I love mixing two opposite ideas,” is how Jason Bleick, Vina’s creative director, described the new branding to Dieline.

The Beverly Hills Hotel partly inspires Vina’s matte color palette that seems to be brightened by the California sun. The use of block printing reinforces Vina’s laid-back and cosmopolitan sensibility. Minimalism and hard edges draw to mind paintings by Ellsworth Kelly and Kenneth Noland. A DIY, lo-fi casual-chic influenced sensibility comes from street artist Basquiat and 80s punk show flyers, also apparent in the inorganic shapes and typography.

Vina’s new look manages to be chic and sophisticated while being low-key and unpretentious. The refresh infers wellness and serenity, but also fun and fashionable. If it were possible to capture a west coast kind of vibe in a can, Vina might be it.

The relaunched Vina is available now in select Whole Foods and Erewhon stores in Southern California and online for everyone else at DrinkVina.com.
