With a name like Groundwork, it makes sense that this packaging is inspired by nature. Designed by Ludlow Kingsley, these coffee bags are bold with a handcrafted twist; in fact, the typography seemingly grows upwards, creating a positive impression. With names like “Bitches Brew” and “Black Gold,” there’s a lot of humor and charm infused in this brand, also reflected through the playful packaging.
Groundwork Coffee is LA’s most authentic coffee—sourced from certified organic farms around the globe, roasted to order each day, and served to the most driven community in the world. We created a custom logotype that modernized the original branding, while still feeling authentically Groundwork. We selected a distinct color palette to stand out on the shelf and paired it with memorable graphic shapes. Reimagining the Groundwork packaging experience, we thought through product strategy, information architecture, color palette, and graphic systems. We wanted each product to feel unique, while using color theory to categorize the product types.
