Starbucks is in the midst of a transition. New CEO Brian Niccol, formerly of fast-casual Chipotle, has made many promises since taking the helm of a beleaguered Starbucks. Some big, oft-requested changes are coming, like no upcharge for non-diary milk and the return of the self-serve condiment bar.
However, one thing that has remained the same, at least for now, is the annual release of holiday-themed Starbucks cups.
This year’s theme for Starbucks’ holiday cups is “Merrier Together,” a sentiment certainly welcomed as one of the most divisive presidential elections in modern American history comes to a close. Dropping the usual and highly anticipated holiday cups a few days before the election seems like odd timing (and on a Saturday, no less). While some might welcome the distraction, perhaps they shouldn’t, given the stakes.
