McDonald’s Says Goodbye to the McFlurry’s Plastic Lids

While everyone else has pumpkin spice on their minds and menus, McDonald’s is announcing two changes to one of its soft-serve cold sweet treats, the McFlurry.

McDonald’s is now launching a new, smaller serving of the McFlurry called Mini McFlurry. But they’re also introducing more sustainable packaging for both sizes of the McFlurry, which are already in use in other countries like Canada and Indonesia.

The new packaging features an integrated top comprised of four folding flaps, making the additional plastic domed lid redundant. The new packaging follows last year’s elimination of the item’s signature spoon, which doubled as mixing spindle and eating utensil. Now, McDonald’s utilizes washable spindles and serves McFlurrys with the same small plastic spoon that comes with sundaes.
