Halloween is a time for frightening tales. While most stories tend to have a supernatural antagonist, some real-life events are so horrific they don’t need embellishments like a terrorizing ghoul or a haunting ghost.
Sir John Franklin’s expedition and the ultimate fate of everyone aboard the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus is one such story. Not only did every single member of the crew die, but they did so in gruesome ways, made all the more dreadful when set in the harsh arctic environment.
Oh, and faulty packaging contributed to the expedition’s failure and the deaths of all 127 crew members.
