What does it mean for a design to be timeless?

The question seems deceptively easy to answer when our world has agreed-upon examples. Coca-Cola’s contour bottle, for example, granted a patent in 1915 and distributed nationally by the 1920s, is a large part of the brand’s identity but also serves as a cultural shorthand for everything from festivities, commercialism, and American Imperialism.
