Households in the Great White North toss $1,352 worth of food as waste, according to Love Food Hate Waste Canada, an organization dedicated to reducing the food wasted in the country.
Not only could wasted food have been served to hungry folks, but it also contributes to climate change—the associated greenhouse gas emissions from wasted food amount to the equivalent of more than 2 million cars.
Hellmann’s Canada wants to bring more attention to the amount of food Canadians waste annually with the 1352: Refreshed Sneakers. The sneakers came about from a partnership with sustainable sneaker brand ID.EIGHT, and the design features materials from commonly wasted foods like corn, apples, grapes, and mushrooms.
