It’s been a wild week in social media land, especially for all of the brand strategists, social media managers, and flacks that make a living conversing or promoting on these many, many platforms. And if there weren’t already enough apps to juggle, Meta haphazardly dropped a sparkly new venture in our screen-covered laps.

Threads, a brand new app designed by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, was developed for users to share text-based updates and join in on conversations. So yes, a lot like Twitter. However, for Threads, you log in using your Instagram account.

After Elon Musk purchased Twitter for a whopping $44 billion in October 2022, users saw a drastic shift in the platform’s moderation policies. What’s more, the social media platform lost over 1.3 million users. Over time, many of Twitter’s users were looking to jump ship and find a new platform (hello, Bluesky, bon jour, Mastodon) to share their antics, and Meta didn’t skip a beat in acquiring them.
