For everyone who’s never been wildly in love with social culture’s ongoing marriage to alcohol and not much else, the past few years have likely felt like a massive breath of fresh air. Finally, more low or no-alcohol drink options that actually sound interesting! Alcohol is getting much lighter, from liquor to beer, and for those of us who prefer different vices altogether, cannabis has become much, much more accessible as a way to enjoy a night out in public. Its increasing legality has made it easier to smoke a joint or casually pop an edible on a bar patio without any (well, less– IYKYK!) anxiety.
As any stoner will know, the latter option has its problems. An edible’s extended-release take on weed can be fun, exciting, and a surprisingly pleasant way to discourage any extra substance consumption for a night. However, edibles are unpredictable; there’s no way to know how they’ll hit unless you’ve really gotten to know your dosage (or preferred brand of choice), and even then, it’s more of a gamble than the fairly instant feel of smoking. It can also just be enjoyable to have more than one thing, and someone on the California sober tip may feel a little left out from a night of drinking.
